*musical question*

I've just been sorting through a few boxes of junk'n'stuff, and stumbled up on a cassette copy of Lloyd Cole's "Mainstream". This started me thinking, cause it's very much one of those albums that totally rocked my world when I was about 15, and I'm sure that if I think back far enough, there are other records that are kind of linked to certain periods of time. And I would imagine a few of them would make people cringe. So, as a precurser to a big long rambling post at some point in the future, what musical skeletons to people have that still rattle in a fairly appealing way?

That would be my tape of Justified and Ancient by the KLF. One of the first tapes I ever bought and it still makes me smile.

Re:
The KLF were cool though. The whole idea behind them rocked! Although I think I remember them first as the Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, if I recall the name correctly.

And there's another blast from the past. Not read any of his stuff for years, but it does very much still colour my whole way of thinking.

the KLF were extremely cool... as are bill drummond's writings... also well worth checking out are mark manning (zodiac mindwarp, if that rings a bell)'s books & art... very trippy, clever & funny...

Re:
Zodiac Mindwarp was excellent, in a kind of sleazy tongue-in-cheek way. And Bill Drummond was one of those people who just bred coolness. His fingerprints were all over the late 70s/early 80s Liverpool scene, as well as many many other places.

And the burning of £1,000,000 was conceptual art at its greatest.

This makes a lot of sense actually - and perhaps goes part of the way to explaining the wonderful glam/sleaze freak that is Lance. ;-)

Re:
oh, yeah.... well, that's the scene i worked, travelled, roadied, scored, lost & found time in.... it always had the london sleaze passion & the hollywood trash & glitz... my time i think perhaps most of all, above my rave days... the long draw-out-drama affairs, & hotel room tourbus life.... glory daze... ;)
& as lance is almost entirely based on my partner through those years...well, everyone has a soundtrack...

I think my soundtrack would be so eclectic, that the only person who could possibly like all of it is me. We shall see.

Re:
Well, I've got the list done, and it's not that bad really. I just need to babble about it and try and paper over a couple of 2 year gaps. Which could take a while, as I feel obliged to listen to all of the songs again to make sure they conjure the right memories. If that makes sense.

your list is so cool!
it's kinda fascinating to read that much about someone else's history, their journey from there to here... music is so personal...

& besides, the inspiration train knocked me down at 6am yesterday, & current project is a kinda background story, perhaps for public consumption...

scarily fist single I ever bought was The Boys Are Back in Town by Thin Lizzy

Eclectic is a great word, and I must admit I kinda like Thin Lizzy too.

And I've got my list of songs down to 33 now. It's amazing how productive "staff training days" can be. ;-)

Eclectic... rounded, yet sharp... most satisfying, as a word... and it sounds like its meaning as well.

Thought about a soundtrack, but havnt had the inclination as yet.. might germinate in a few days tho :)

Now, that I agree with. Perms are a bad thing on anything that's not a poodle. In fact, strike that. Perms are bad period.

Oooh. Could be fun.

You know, your Setite and my Giovanni really should meet. We'd get on wonderfully.

Talking of which - I think I might have to go play with the Changeling influence rumours again.

As for gameplans, I'll just go with the flow, do what seems to fit at the time. and if that involves torture then, well......

Indeedy-doodley!

Any man who 'cuts down' to four bottles of wine a day gets my vote!

And the no perms restriction is a very cunning one, and a good guide :)

when i was at uni we used to play " soundtrack to your life" whereby you had to name the 13 songs that would be played if they made a film of your life....ishall have to think then maybe post....

i think most ppl have very eclectic music tastes, i have a tape i made which have pantera (fucking hostile) followed by clannad, the prodigy (music for the jilted generation), sisters etc...

and i most certainly have songs/albums which remind me of certain times in my life, i can;t listen to ten by pearl jam without remembering some fairly traumatic teem agnst!!

Pearl Jam. Yes. They were there in my blackest hour. But somehow it's Nirvana that mean more, that made more sense at the time.
